Dermoscopy is a non-invasive technique that uses a magnifying device with polarised light to examine skin lesions in greater detail. It helps our doctors to differentiate between benign and malignant lesions.

If a suspicious mole is found, we may recommend a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. If the lesion is cancerous, we will discuss treatment options with you, which may include surgical removal.

A skin cancer check is generally not painful. The visual examination is non-invasive. If a biopsy is required, a local anesthetic will be used to minimise any discomfort.

The best way to prevent skin cancer is to protect your skin from excessive sun exposure. This includes wearing protective clothing, using sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, seeking shade during peak sun hours, and avoiding solariums.
